This past weekend my family and I hiked the Tongariro Crossing
We have all heard of it as 'New Zealand's best one day hike' which sets expectations high.
Now I don't know about you, but when there is an opportunity I grasp it with all ambiguity and make sure it is the pathway that leads to 'the better story'. This is generally how I like to see challenges or opportunities. If you come between a fork in the road, choose the pathway that generates the better story.
As a testimant to this above statement, I decided to tag along and hike one of New Zealands great walks.
5 Hours after leaving Auckland we arrived at a meticulous lodge in National Park. I was instantly drawn to a table in the distance. It looked like it had been made for kings! The table stood 1.8m high, and was completed with two chairs and a stool. This was not the first surprise of the lodge.
Later in the night I was roaming around the lounge area and found a small cupboard. It seemed to be quite a strange place to have a cupboard. My inner curiosity took over and I decided to take a peek. To my surprise when I opened the door I encountered a hidden room, fit with a large TV and comfortable sofas! How awesome! It felt like I was in a scene from 'The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe. I had always dreamed of having a secret hangout like this when I was a kid.
The next morning I woke up at 6am and drove to the start of the crossing. The one thing I love about it is the f
